The Liberal Media Bias
Sep. 5th, 2008 07:03 pmAs many people are likely to remember, last year sometime there was a huge media firestorm about how Jon Edwards paid $600 for a haircut. Every newspaper in the country seemed to be running it, and the poor guy (scumbag adulterer that he is) got hammered with it to the point that it never went away.
Now if you go and google "Cindy McCain 300,000 outfit," you'll find several links to blogs all over the country discussing the ensemble that Mrs. McCain wore at the G.O.P. convention. The estimates suggest that she was wearing jewelry and clothing worth approximately $300,000 dollars. In a lot of places in this country, that's the value of a reasonably sized house. For something that she's unlikely to wear more than once.
Yet your google search will not reveal any official news organizations carrying this story.*
Now I'm not saying that there should be. It's not news that the outrageously rich spend an outrageous amount of money on a lot of things in ways that many of us can't imagine. I just want to point out the discrepancy between a $600 haircut and a $300,000 wardrobe. One horrifies the nation and is on the front page of every newspaper. The other is practically impossible to find.
Liberal bias indeed.
*As it turns out, there is a story. There's an AP story buried in the Boston Herald's Style and Fashion section. According to them, it's actually closer to $313,000. In the grand scheme of things, that's not much of a difference, though $13,000 is a lot of money to me.
